Skagit Northwest Orthopedics announces new site for surgical care
Skagit Northwest Orthopedics announced today that Island Hospital, located in Anacortes, Wash., will now be the primary inpatient site for orthopedic surgical care of its patients. Skagit Northwest Orthopedics is a division of Proliance Surgeons, Inc., P.S., a physician-owned and operated medical group with 18 ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs) throughout the Puget Sound region.
Skagit Northwest Orthopedics had also worked with Skagit Valley Hospital for the past 20 years, and recent decisions by the hospital administration and its board of commissioners toward independent physicians made it untenable for Skagit Northwest Orthopedics to continue treating patients at their hospital.
“We’ve enjoyed a cooperative relationship with Skagit Valley Hospital for many years,” said David G. Fitzgerald, chief executive officer of Proliance Surgeons. “But, because of their efforts to hire our physicians and others, we were unable to continue the existing relationship. As a surgical center we offer the highest standard of care at a more competitive price and need to maintain our independence in order to continue to provide outstanding services for all of our patients.”
“Since the majority of our surgeries are already being performed on an outpatient basis at our Mount Vernon location, we expect very little disruption for our surgical patients. Island Hospital is an award-winning, excellent, high quality community hospital with a very high volume of joint replacements and excellent, new facilities,” Fitzgerald said. “We have worked with them for more than 16 years and look forward to working with them in an even more focused capacity.”
“Island Hospital’s management shares our patient-centered values and has demonstrated a strong commitment to developing an orthopedic center of excellence with us that is focused on the community’s needs,” said Dr. Kenneth M. Oates, orthopedic surgeon. “To show our commitment to the community, Skagit Northwest Orthopedics is offering extended hours for urgent care appointments several days a week from 5 to 8 p.m. at our location at 1500 Continental Place, Mount Vernon.”
Skagit Northwest Orthopedics’ 13 board-certified physicians are recognized for their surgical technical excellence and ability to solve simple and difficult orthopedic problems. The surgery center’s team of experts uses the latest techniques and technology to improve care through pain management, physical and occupational therapies for a variety of problems, including frozen shoulder, rotator cuff repair, knee replacement, hip replacement, carpal tunnel syndrome, sports injuries and work-related injuries.
As a full-service orthopedics medical practice, Skagit Northwest Orthopedics offers a comprehensive list of services to patients suffering musculoskeletal conditions, as well as surgical and nonsurgical care for spinal conditions. In addition, skilled podiatric physicians offer the most advanced treatment methods and surgical procedures for chronic and acute foot and ankle care. The surgery center’s group of experts works in several specialties to serve patients’ needs all in one location, including diagnostic digital X-rays available at its offices.
