Arthroscopic Surgery

Arthroscopic knee procedures are frequently performed to both evaluate and treat many orthopedic conditions, including torn meniscus cartilage, ACL reconstruction, and loose body removal and addressing damaged cartilage. Many orthopedic surgical procedures can be done arthroscopically in a minimally invasive fashion. This means use of smaller incisions, less time under anesthesia, and frequently a shorter recovery time. With the advancements of surgical equipment and techniques, our surgeons can perform these procedures in our ambulatory surgery centers on an outpatient basis.

Our staff are specialty trained to work with state of the art equipment that allows the surgical time to be minimized significantly. Arthroscopic procedures are frequently more cost effective for patients because there is no overnight stay in the hospital. It is technically possible to do an arthroscopic examination of almost every joint in the human body. The joints that are most commonly examined and treated by arthroscopy are the knee, shoulder, elbow, wrist, ankle, and hip.

In consultation with your surgeon and based on your particular condition, you will determine together whether an arthroscopic procedure is right for you. Patients having arthroscopic surgery may not need general anesthesia. Often they are able to have "nerve blocks" performed by the anesthesiologist. This option generally allows the patient to have shorter recovery times after leaving the operating room and less side effects when compared to general anesthesia. Your surgeon will discuss the best option for you prior to your surgery. Your comfort and recovery time are very important to the staff at Proliance Surgeons
